May The Force Be With You

SIDENOTE:

Darth Across America landed in Richmond yesterday. I was walking to Dixie Donuts (Maybe I should lay off the donuts), when a woman approached me with a Darth Vader helmet. San Francisco based photographer, Julie Schuchard, is traveling across the United States to showcase the people who live here. So of course, I put on the helmet.

The true StarWars fan that was honored during this trip through Richmond was Lex's of Carytown Manager Gigi Wall. I honestly don't think she owns a t-shirt that does not sport a StarWars icon of some kind, and man does she look rockin!

Carytown Celebrities

What a beautiful day in Richmond! We started out the day with some DELICIOUS cake based donuts from locally owned and operated Dixie Donuts. We got a dozen gourmet donuts for $10, including flavors such as chocolate toffee, pb and j, peanut butter crunch, and dulce de leche. My personal favorite being the dulce de leche, layered in a yummy salted caramel topping. While I was impressed with their baking, the employees behind the counter were impressed with something completely different, my adorable puppies! Kyoto and Bella were such celebrities that they had their picture taken for "Customers of the Week"! I can't wait to share the picture with you all when it is posted :)

On that note, Kyoto's surgery went flawlessly, and he is currently curled up on my lap in recovery. Unfortunately he has to wear the "cone of shame" for the next 10 days! He is miserable about this of course.

After our trip to Carytown, since it was such a nice day, we decided to walk to the outdoor market only a few blocks from our apartment complex. We went to the 17th Street Farmers' Market expecting to find lots of vegetables. Instead we found vegetables, fruits, soaps, jewelry, scarves, and so much more. I wish we had got their sooner because some of the venders were beginning to pack up their things when we arrived. The "vintage" market is tomorrow from 9AM-4PM, maybe I will just have to check this out!

Two Terrors, Two Joys, Two Puppies

Over the past year I have accumulated two puppies. Chihuahua puppies to be exact. They are the loves of my life, and are as part of the family as children.

There are positives and negatives to owning a Chihuahua

Negatives
  • Sooner or later they will find their bark
  • There is no such thing as too much play time
  • Sometimes we play just a little too rough
Positives
  • Tell them to shut up nicely and they usually do
  • Their crazy antics could earn you money when that video you shot before bed goes viral
  • You can train them to use a litter box
  • Smart and Easy to train
  • Minimal shedding

So overall my dogs are a WIN

We got my first Chihuahua, Kyoto, in December 2011 when he was 12 weeks old. He was rescued from a puppy mill pet shop, but now lives the happiest life possible.

Here is Kyoto when I got him for Christmas!

My sweet little Kyoto was lonely when he had to stay home by himself, and we considered getting another dog when he got a little older.

Inconveniently ;) there was a chihuahua puppy in our apartment complex that needed a home.  Little Miss Bella joined the family. This pudgy ball of fire was only 7 weeks old when we got her. We have had her for about a month now, and it is incredible how much she has learned. Kyoto teaches her too, I wish I could capture it all.
Kyoto gets neutered tomorrow :(
Please wish him luck!

Bonjour Hola Hello Guten Tag Aloha

In order to occupy my many thoughts (My many amazing thoughts). I decided to write to you, whoever you are, internet browser extraordinaires!! For my first post I'm just going to let you get to know me. I currently work at Lex's of Carytown. If you live in Richmond (or outside Richmond) and you have not been yet please come visit! In the back of the store we carry designer dresses for formal occasions, and in the front of the store we carry clothing and jewelry from New York City. I love my job because I get to see how both casual and formal wear are progressing in the industry. The designs from year to year surprise me every time. I am most excited about our expansion at the end of the summer! We will be adding sections for mother of the bride, "after 5", and expanded our casual collection.

I have wondered my whole life what I was supposed to do. I have competed in Equestrian, and many times debated going into a profession involving that. It was not until I started working for Theory that I found my passion. Theory is one of the 32 brands featured in New York Fashion Week. That's a pretty big deal.  Theory is known for creating classic pieces that could work with anything in your wardrobe, and still be edgy. Although not everything was for me, I loved every design. I was submerged in high fashion! I was in charge of the "Inspiration Board", every season I would design a board of trends to inspire my co-worker's wardrobes. Don't worry I am going to post one on here!

I am currently enrolled in Virginia Commonwealth University's Marketing program, and plan to pursue a Masters degree in Fashion Merchandising from the School of the Arts. The city of Richmond is full of culture, and with only one semester under my belt I still have so much to experience. I can't wait to share it all with you!
